Thanks to Missouri Pacific Historical Society member, Mike Huddleston, we are able to offer a set of parts to convert any HO scale RS-3 into one of these distinctive locomotives. All the modeler needs to furnish is a locomotive, paint, decals, Canon & Company EMD 36” early fans, and Details West Spark Arrestors number SA-124. Modelers will have to remove the Alco fan and blank off the top of the carbody above the engine to prepare their model for this conversion. A detailed article can be found in the Winter 2018 issue of "The Eagle" or on the Missouri Pacific Historical Society bulletin board - legacy.mopac.org/bb/index.php - in the HO model section. Modifying the Phase I and IIa RS-3’s are on the bulletin board. "The Eagle" article covers the Phase I conversion.
The difficult to make and unique MoPac exhaust manifold, fan box and shroud, number boards, and class lights are included in this set. Initially, the prototype GP-12 conversions did not have the spark arrestors, so modelers have a choice of using either manifold depending on what era they model.
